The number of Nissan Leafs and Renault Zoe electric vehicles to be processed at BCA Corby (receive, inspection, fully charge, refurbish, remarket) would increase from 300 in 2016 to 4000 in 2017 and over 6000 in 2018. New brands were added including Tesla in 2018.
A number of DNO substations supplied the site with very limited power available on those that BCA was aware of – BCA was keen to avoid paying for an expensive substation upgrade.
ElectrAssure conducted a full survey of the site and recommended moving the chargers to a new location close to a substation with capacity available on the supply.
ABB tri-standard rapid chargers were specified because of their flexibility, reliability and fault tolerance for this time critical application.
The ABB Terra 53 charger were installed by ElectrAssure in early 2017. ElectrAssure has provided a full monitoring and maintenance service since installation and the units have regularly charged over 30 vehicles per day.
