Jaguar iPace demo fleet rapid chargers

The Challenge

BCA Heyford appointed ElectrAssure to design and install an EV charging for the Jaguar iPace and Polestar demonstration fleets operating from its site in Heyford, Oxfordshire. The Heyford site is a disused US Airforce base with ageing infrastructure. The mobile comms signal was low, the nearest mast was 4km from the installation.

The Solution

ElectrAssure specified a 120kW Delta Ultra Fast Charger. It provided the following unique combination of advantages.

  • When one iPace is charging on DC, it charges at the vehicle’s maximum of 100kW
  • When two iPaces charge, the charger would share its capacity between the two vehicles, and both would charge at 60kW
  • The Ultra Fast Charger has a modular fault-tolerant design. Should a fault occur in one of its power modules, the charger will continue to function with the remaining modules.

ElectrAssure provided a full installation and commissioning service.

The Outcome

This charger works very hard! The maximum number of charge cycles recorded in a single day has exceeded 40. An unexpected benefit was that BCA have been able to provide additional services to JLR. JLR Research and Development used the 120kW charger at BCA Heyford for final development and testing of the iPace.
